Description
Provide quality customer service, skilled clerical, and responsible technical functions; monitor, evaluate and relay information related to dispatching; receive and relay information gathered through phone calls and employees; receive and process service requests via automated scheduling and mobile dispatch software; dispatch radio transmissions to drivers and supervisors that involve routine operational matters as well as emergency situations; respond to bus accidents and incidents; transport vehicles and passengers as needed; perform responsible skilled clerical assistance.

Receives and dispatches calls by performing excellent customer service relations; having a general knowledge of the departmental functions; communicating efficiently with customers; taking complaints and relaying messages; receiving 95% of all incoming calls, emergency or non-emergency; relaying calls via two-way radio to bus operators.
Enter reservations and assign trips to drivers via automated scheduling and mobile dispatch software; retrieves case boxes from buses.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES Responds to accidents and incidents.
Replaces buses and transport passengers as needed to facilitate customer service objectives.
Informs supervisors of vehicular accents and passenger incidents.
Attends meetings and training sessions.
Performs additional duties to support operational requirements as assigned.
Education and Experience High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by six months/one year of post-secondary study or training: e.
g.
college, vocational, business, technical school, and over one year up to and including two years.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the specific requirements listed above Certifications/Licenses Valid Commercial Driver’s License (with Passenger endorsement) and acceptable driving record according to City criteria Job Knowledge No knowledge of specific work.
Ability to learn and general knowledge of having a job such as timeliness and receiving directions.
Reading Intermediate: Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, and thesauruses.
Writing Intermediate: Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
Math Intermediate: Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
Communication Skills Decisions regarding interpretation of policies may be made.
Contact may involve stressful, negative interactions requiring high levels of tact, and the ability to respond to aggressive interpersonal interactions.
Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
Independence and Decision-Making The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving general instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results.
There is some opportunity for discretion when making selections among a few, easily identifiable choices.
The assignment is usually reviewed frequently.
